Personal Statement

How long have you worked at CPCMG Encinitas?
This August will mark my three year anniversary!

Where did you grow up? If you didn’t grow up in the San Diego area, what brought you to southern California?
I grew up in Northern California – San Jose, to be more specific. I went medical school in Boston and always knew I wanted to come back to the west coast. I was very excited to match at UCSD for residency. Then I guess I just got stuck in San Diego (poor me).

Why did you decide to become a pediatrician? What attracted you to pediatrics? Did you consider other specialties?
I became a doctor because I wanted to help people. I’ve always had a soft spot for children. They are always so honest and so vulnerable. I didn’t really like any of the other specialties – sorry, adults!

What do you enjoy most about working with children, parents and families?
I like knowing families over time, watching the children grow up and become adults.

Tell us about your family.
I don’t have any children yet. My first nephew was born earlier this year. He’s the best! I try to see him as much as possible. I come from a big sports family and there are always sports on in the background. We also play a lot of games (cards, board, dominoes) – we make everything a competition!

What is some important life advice (beyond what you learned in medical school) that you can give to parents for their children?
That everyone desires a break sometimes. There are no perfect kids. There are no perfect parents. Sometimes everyone is just doing the best they can.

How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle? Any tips to share?
I started going to a cross-fit gym a year-and-a-half ago. I think it’s important to always make time to build a healthy lifestyle. Being busy isn’t an excuse! Also I’m a big “everything in moderation” kind of a person.

What are your favorite pastimes/hobbies? What do you like to do in your spare time?
I read a lot (both medical and for fun!). I like to cook and spend time in my patio garden. I’m always doing home improvement projects.
